Stephen Emlund

Ever since he was a naïve freshman wandering the halls of high school Stephen Emlund has been passionate about all things online, and he’s been churning out websites long before he knew the difference between CSS and HTML. After many valuable hours in the classroom, he wound up at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri in pursuit of a degree in Visual Communication. One diploma and four years of professional development later, he landed a job as Web Developer at A.T. Still University, the nation’s founding school of osteopathic medicine. Outside of the office, Stephen runs his own design firm, Creative Improv, which provides websites and graphic design services to a number of clients. Stephen has successfully developed websites for a wide variety of clients, from up-and-coming musicians to churches and universities.

When he’s not energetically programming and strategizing another website, Stephen is consistently turning out print design, signage, Web design and branding. He can effectively use the entire Adobe software package, along with Microsoft programs. Part of Stephen’s design philosophy is that form should follow function, borrowing from Hillman Curtis’ advice on design: “A [web] design's form should follow its function, but that doesn't mean function should erase form." After a long day staring at the computer screen, Stephen unwinds by spending time with friends, listening to music, and practicing saxophone and guitar.
